The PBC approved The
George Sollitt/Oakley Construction Joint Venture as the general contractor
for the new school which will replace the current Westinghouse High
School.
The new school will be
directly east of the existing Westinghouse High School, 3301 W. Franklin
Blvd. The new two-story 251,000 square foot college preparatory/vocational
magnet high school will serve approximately 1,200 students and will be
built to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s standards for LEED
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
The facility is
designed around a central 45,900sf courtyard, and will include general
studies classrooms, science and chemistry labs, a library/media center,
language/computer lab, instrumental music room, along with a broadcast
technology and film room. Westinghouse High School will include a 10,384sf
auditorium with stage, a 12,397sf gymnasium with bleachers, along with a
kitchen and dining area.
