Lockport Street Streetscape
Plainfield, Illinois

Updated 12/1/08

Owner: Village of Plainfield
Architect: The Lakota Group
Contract Type: Construction Manager and
General Contractor

The Plainfield Lockport Street Streetscape project includes the complete replacement of the road and sidewalk on Lockport Street between James Street and 59 Illinois Street in the heart of downtown Plainfield’s business district. Work includes the replacement of an aging water main, water and sanitary sewer service laterals, reconfiguring of two-way traffic and the widening of sidewalks.

As Construction Manager and General Contractor our team provided extensive preconstruction services including budgeting, scheduling, pedestrian and construction safety plan and site logistic phasing plan. The design will provide an enjoyable, safe and comfortable pedestrian environment for shopping and dining.

The Lockport Street Streetscape project is using carefully chosen quality materials that will be incorporated into a streetscape including:

  • Limestone
  • Brick pavers
  • Granite accent banding
  • Colored concrete

Features include:

  • Stone seat walls with fiber optic accent lighting
  • Planter and tree pits
  • Benches
  • New signage
  • Street lighting

The major utility and road construction work began in late-March 2008, and is scheduled to be substantially complete by late-October 2008. Substantial completion includes opening of Lockport Street to two-way traffic, a substantial completion of the pedestrian zones followed by landscaping, signage and gateway feature installation.

Sollitt is committed to the Village's plan to restore Lockport Street to full utilization prior to the 2008 holiday shopping season.
