The Village
of Orland Park contracted Sente Rubel Bosman Lee Architects Ltd. (SRBL) to
design a state-of-the-art Police Headquarters. The design recycled an existing
commercial warehouse located on the corner of 151st and Ravinia Avenue in Orland
Park. Sollitt was hired as the Construction Manager on this exciting and
challenging project. This project is a first of its kind in the south
suburbs to achieve a LEED Gold certification.
This project consisted of
completely gutting the 61,245 square foot warehouse down to the building shell
and structural elements. SRBL’s design incorporated several
sustainable features which met both current and future operational needs,
as well as promoted an energy efficient, environmentally friendly work climate.
The new 65,175
square foot facility
features new South and East elevations, and incorporates a mezzanine, staff and
administrative offices, training room, evidence room, library, men’s and women’s
locker rooms, processing area with eight male and six female holding cells, and
sally port.
To achieve the LEED Gold
certification several elements were reviewed. The project checklist
included seven credits for Sustainable Site, three credits for Water Efficiency,
nine credits for Energy and Atmosphere, six credits for Materials and Resources,
ten credits for Indoor Environmental Quality and five credits for Innovation and
Design Process. In addition to the 40 pre-certification credits, the project
team is reviewed 13 additional credits for possible pre-certification. |
