The Oak Park Marion & Westgate Street Improvement project encompasses the removal of an existing pedestrian-only mall and construction of two new streets that allow for through traffic, parking and streetscape.

As Construction Manager and General Contractor our team provided extensive preconstruction services include budgeting, scheduling, phasing and GMP budgeting.

The scope of work includes:

  • Widening and resurfacing of the Lake and Marion Street intersection
  • Replacing and reworking traffic signals
  • Upgraded water and sewer service
  • Decorative park benches and bike racks
  • Perennial trees and ornamental grasses
  • Shade trees
  • Elaborate sound system with PA
  • Decorative light poles
  • Under sidewalk "heat mat" (to help eliminate snow removal)
  • Irrigation system

Infrastructure work includes:

  • Replacement of the existing water main
  • Replacement of building services
  • Replacement of valve boxes
  • Replacement of the existing building sewer lines
  • Lining the existing sewer with a cured in place lining

The Marion Street portion of this project is used carefully chosen high-quality materials that were incorporated into a streetscape design that is rooted in the past, but meets modern demands for access, lighting and maintenance.  Brick pavers  provide a road surface similar to the original early 20th century street.  Bluestone sidewalks and granite curbs are in keeping with the historic character of the downtown area.  Along with the high end streetscapes, planters and a new fountain are featured.

The new Marion & Westgate Street Improvement project was completed on time and within budget opening to the public November 2007..
