The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery is located in Elwood, Illinois, approximately 50 miles southwest of Chicago.  The cemetery covers 982 acres and was dedicated in 1999 as the 117th national cemetery within the Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemeteries.  It is the 2nd largest cemetery in the United States of America. The Department of Veterans Affairs describes this project as Columbarium Expansion and Committal Shelter.

The expansion consisted of 3,000 columbaria niches, road expansion and walkways.  The project began in November 2006 with site preparation, including the demolition and removal of existing structures.  Heated tents were installed to allow work to continue throughout the winter.
