Loyola University Medical Center New Ambulatory Care Facility
Maywood, Illinois
Architect: VOA Associates
This 239,000 square foot facility features a light-washed lobby with a calming wall of water that welcomes people entering the building. An adjacent, glass-enclosed winter garden orients patients and visitors and provides a healing link to the natural environment.
Geared toward providing a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, the Center features a lower level and four stories above grade. Situated adjacent to the South Campus Gateway, the building establishes a strong focal point to anchor the Medical Center’s Ambulatory Care zone. The new structure is linked to the 6 story, 400,000 square foot parking facility previously completed by Sollitt.
The lower level includes Radiation Oncology and MRI facilities. Four linear accelerators are housed below grade in vaults behind one foot thick steel plate shielding embedded into four foot thick reinforced concrete walls to provide protection from radiation. The Center also features 150 examining rooms, eight operating rooms, six radiology rooms, three mammography rooms, two fluoroscopy rooms, two CT simulators, two CT scanners, one open and one closed MRI.
