Gottlieb
Surgical Suite
Melrose park, Illinois
Architect: Loebl Schlossman & Hackl
Located on the Gottlieb Memorial Hospital campus in Melrose Park, this new two story,
21,000 SF surgical suite was added to the main hospital
facility. Our project team worked closely with the Hospital
to phase all work so that the Hospital could continue with
normal operations while construction progressed.
Phase I
included construction of the core and shell of the building,
new first floor offices, elevator, staff locker rooms and
storage rooms. Phase I second floor work included two
open-heart operating rooms, one orthopedic operating room, two
scrub areas, nurse station and staff lounge. Extensive
measures were taken throughout the project to maintain
infection control, including housekeeping and fire separation
protection. Phase II, III & IV included one neurological
operating room, post-anesthetic care units, inpatient holding
area, dark room and new corridors. The original design was
over budget, but through value engineering by our team we were
able to reduce the original cost by $500,000 or 10% while
maintaining the high standard of quality and precision a
project of this class demanded. Phasing allowed us to
minimize Owner down time, allowing continuation of surgery in
adjacent operating rooms
