Giving Back is something we love to do at Sollitt and once again we are elated to get out and support a worthy cause. This year we had the opportunity not just to help the Family Rescue Center on Stony Island Avenue in Chicago, IL, but to also collaborate with the Public Image Partnership Inc. and African American Contractors Association by providing paid construction trade experience work to youth and adults between the ages of 18-24 from the communities we work in.

Coinciding with our annual volunteer effort with Rebuilding together (formerly known as Christmas in April) Sollitt chose the Family Rescue Center to be the recipient of our endeavors. Family Rescue is dedicated to eliminating domestic violence in the Chicago community by providing comprehensive support services and shelter to victims of domestic violence.

The paid volunteers started eight weeks prior to the culmination of our April 29 volunteer effort and were partnered with tradesmen to learn the fundamentals of demolition, carpentry, drywall and painting while working on the recently purchased building by Family Rescue Center for their new headquarters and permanent shelter apartments.

Mentoring young proteges and renovating a safe haven for women and children that had been a victim of domestic violence is what giving back and paying it forward is all about. A new headquarters is well on its way to completion with the combined effort of the employees of Sollitt Construction Co., Ashlaur Construction, Unique Casework Installation, Inc. and LiveWire Construction,  who came out to give of their time and talent to help Family Rescue Center renovate the new facility that will offer a better quality of life for the women and children they help. This is what the Sollitt family stands for.
