Plainfield South High School
Plainfield, Illinois
Architect: Healy Snyder Bender & Associates
Located on a 75 acre site, the 2400 student facility includes a main academic wing of 180,000 square feet, competition gym, auditorium, cafeteria, theater, administrative wing, mechanical rooms, athletic center, and fieldhouse/gym. Sitework includes a football stadium, tennis courts, practice fields, parking lots, and access roads. The 850 seat auditorium is served by a separate mechanical room with specialized sound dampening equipment and features 30 ft. high movable partitions, an orchestra pit with removable cover, and advanced sound and lighting systems. Special slotted block walls are acoustically tuned to break up sound waves and minimize echo or dead zones.
By careful preconstruction planning and an aggressive approach to scheduling, we were able to be under roof and completely enclosed within ten months of our November, 1999, groundbreaking. We previously completed the 280,000 square foot High School No. 1 for this Client in fifteen months on an accelerated basis, more than four months ahead of schedule.
