The
new Belvidere Elementary School is designed around a central Flexible Team
Learning Area (FTLA) for group and individual learning. The Learning Area is
organized around a central media center/library.
This two
story structure is constructed of masonry and structural
steel. It includes five kindergartens, 35 classrooms, special
education classrooms, art room and music rooms. The gymnasium
includes a full size basketball court and cafeteria with extra
seating, which will double as a student performance area.
This school
shares the 120 acre site with the new High School project,
which is being constructed by Sollitt. The Elementary School
also includes roadways, parking, parent drop off and pick up
with a separate bus area. The separate bus area can be gated
off and used during the school day for hard surface play. The
site includes two playground areas allowing the separation of
grade levels, two athletic fields for soccer, softball,
physical education and play.
The school is
built of durable and energy efficient materials, including
brick and concrete masonry units, high quality roof
insulation, insulated high performance glass windows, and a
computer controlled heating and cooling system. The building
has an automatic fire sprinkler system throughout and security
entry system connected to the administration office. This
school opened on time within a one year completion schedule. |
