Broadview Missionary Baptist Church
Broadview, Illinois
Architect: Harding Partners
This new two story, 90,000 sf facility, set on an eight acre site at the intersection of Roosevelt Road and 25th Street in Broadview, provides a dramatic new home for the 5000 member congregation.
An expanded lobby surrounding the main sanctuary features terrazzo flooring with an intricate, curved pattern that echos the rounded shape of the enclosed sanctuary. The two story narthex is traversed by a suspended, curved pedestrian bridge at the second floor level. The striking space of the sanctuary is defined by a 150 foot dome that soars 60 feet above the main floor. Seating for 1440 on the main floor of the sanctuary is augmented by an additional 600 seats in the balcony and 264 seats in the choir area. The extensive use of cherry wood paneling behind the altar and choir areas along with fabric wrapped panels at the perimeter of the sanctuary is designed to project sound while eliminating acoustical dead zones and echo.
A two story conference room provides an additional fellowship area that can accommodate seating for about 400. Other facilities include administrative offices, classrooms, nurseries, counseling rooms, and a 200 seat chapel with balcony.
Sollitt, in collaboration with the Owner and Architect, generated more than $1.4 million in Value Engineering savings in order to meet budgetary requirements and allow the project to proceed.
