Domestic Violence Courthouse
Cook County

Chicago, Illinois

Architect: Campbell Tiu Campbell

Located at 555 West Harrison in Chicago, this project consisted of renovating the entire 192,636 square foot 19th century warehouse facility into the New Cook County Domestic Violence Courthouse.

Extensive structural renovations were required to transform the existing building into a state of the art court facility which now handles domestic violence cases.  This project included ten courtrooms and associated support space, seven large holding cells, 21 regular holding cells, 12 interview rooms and seven elevators.  The courthouse also features a 600kw emergency generator system and a 2,040 watt photovoltaic system.  A day care center was constructed to accommodate the needs of families visiting the facility.

The project has been designed to meet a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) goal of a Silver status as rated by the U.S. Green Building Council.  Recycled materials were utilized throughout the project, and all building components and materials met strict environmental requirements.
